This course in the life sciences is designed to conform to the standards of the Advanced Placement Program. The course includes thorough treatment of biochemistry, cytology, biological diversity, organismal biology, and population ecology. The curriculum is designed to prepare the student for a rigorous exam which may result in the awarding of college credit.

Notes: Dissection may be a part of this course. Students may select an alternative assignment in lieu of actual dissection of an organism.

A.P. Calculus AB

This course is designed for students who wish to earn college credit in Calculus by taking the Calculus AB Advanced Placement Examination. It is designed for those students who plan to major in mathematics, engineering, computer science, or a math related field. This course covers such topics as: the Cartesian plane and functions, limits and their properties, differentiation and its applications, integration, logarithmic and exponential functions, differentiation and integration of logarithmic, exponential and other transcendental functions, volumes by disc, and cross sectional areas.

A.P. Calculus BC

This course is designed for students who wish to earn college credit in Calculus by taking the Calculus BC Advanced Placement Examination. The BC exam covers more topics than does the AB exam and earns more credit at most colleges and universities. It is designed for those students who plan to major in mathematics, engineering, computer science, or a math related field. This course reviews topics such as: Cartesian plane and functions, limits and their properties, differentiation and its applications, integration and its applications. This course also emphasizes integration through partial fraction decomposition, trigonometric integration, L'Hopital's rule, improper integrals, infinite series, Taylor and Maclaurin series and polynomial approximations, parametric, polar, and vector functions, analysis of planar curves in parametric form, polar form and vector form, derivatives of parametric, polar, and vector functions, Euler's method, and slope fields.

Prerequisite: "A" in Pre-Calculus 1B Honors (with teacher recommendation), Calculus 1B Advanced Placement/AB, or Calculus 1B

This course is designed to meet all of the requirements of the Advanced Placement Program. The course will cover atomic structure and the interactions of combining atoms. Also covered will be the areas of stoichiometry, equation balancing, problem solving, the states of matter, oxidation-reduction reactions, periodicity of the elements, bonding, basic organic chemistry, and environmental chemistry and its impact on the ecology. Both their writing and their reading should make students aware of the interactions among a writer's purposes, audience expectations, and subjects as well as the way generic conventions and the resources of language contribute to effectiveness in writing.

Through the close reading of selected texts, students deepen their understanding of the ways writers use language to provide both meaning and pleasure for their readers. As they read, students consider a work's structure, style, and themes as well as such smaller-scale elements as the use of figurative language, imagery, symbolism, and tone.

A.P. Environmental Science

AP Environmental Science is the equivalent of an introductory college course in environmental science.  In this course you will explore and investigate the interrelationships of the natural world and analyze environmental problems, both natural and human-made. Topics include biodiversity, climate change, energy resources, air and water pollution, population growth, deforestation, waste management, and agricultural changes.  The Topic outline can be found on the College Board's® Advanced Placement Program® website. You will also take part in laboratory investigations and field work.

In addition to discussing the fundamental governmental structures and institutions within the United States, students in this course will analyze the interaction among the branches of government, federal bureaucracy, special interest groups, political behavior, concepts of culture and their influence on government, socio-economic status and political alienation, and analyze the activities of political decision makers. A.P. Physics 1: Algebra Based

AP Physics 1 is based on the College Board's Advanced Placement Standards. It is an algebra-based, college level introductory physics class. It covers Newtonian mechanics, work and energy, momentum, mechanical waves and sound, and simple circuits. 25% of the instructional time is spent on hand-on laboratory work, with an emphasis on inquiry-based investigations that provide students with opportunities to apply the science practices.

Prerequisite: Completed or concurrent enrollment in Algebra 2. Geometry. No prior classes in physics are required

This course will take students through a second year of physics and prepare them to take the AP Physics C examination. Students will investigate topics in kinematics, Newton's laws, work, energy, power, momentum, circular motion, oscillatory motion, electricity, and magnetism. Problem solving will emphasize the use of calculus. A "hands-on" lab approach will be incorporated to introduce students to laboratory techniques necessary to succeed at the collegiate level. Special projects are included to give students direction over their own study of physics.

A.P. Principals of Computer Science

This AP Computer Science Principles introduces students to the breadth
of the field of computer science. In this course, students will learn to design and evaluate solutions and to apply computer science to solve problems through the development of algorithms and programs. They will incorporate abstraction into programs and use data to discover new knowledge. Students will also explain how computing innovations and computing systems, including the Internet, work, explore their potential impacts, and contribute to a computing culture that is collaborative and ethical. It is important to note that the AP Computer Science Principles course does not have a designated programming language. Teachers have the flexibility to choose a programming language(s) that is most appropriate for their students to use in the classroom.

Listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills will be refined through the intensive study of literary and practical Spanish written material. Grammatical skills and vocabulary development will be enhanced through compositions, reports, essays, and debates. The course will also prepare the student for a rigorous exam in the spring which may result in the awarding of college credit. This course is communication based and emphasizes collaborative and communicative activities within the areas of listening, speaking, reading, writing, culture, and learning skills.

This course will cover the following topics: exploring data (interpreting graphical displays of distributions, summarizing and comparing distributions of univariate data, and exploring bivariate and categorical data); planning a study (planning, conducting, and generalizing results from surveys and experiments); producing models using probability theory and simulation (probability as relative frequency, combining independent random variables, the normal distribution, and sampling distributions); statistical inference-confirming models (use of confidence intervals, testing of significance and hypothesis, and appropriate use of the t-distribution). Students will review for the Advanced Placement Statistics Test.

This course is designed for the highly motivated and responsible student interested in the serious study of art. It will provide an intensive examination of the process and content of visual expression through two-dimensional and three-dimensional works. Emphasis is placed on the quality, concentration, and breadth of the student's production and experiences. The goal of this course is the completion of a portfolio of artwork, which has been produced by the student, the majority of which has been produced this year, for evaluation at the end of the year by a group of artists and teachers. This advanced placement course requires the student to work outside of the classroom and scheduled class time.

A.P. United States History

This course is a one-year course designed to give students a grounding in the subject matter of American history and in major interpretive questions that derive from the study of major themes in United States history. The student will examine United States history problems and topics through specialized writings by historians and through primary source and supplementary readings. Students will be given extensive practice in analyzing historical problems, collecting and sorting information, developing a thesis, and writing essays to communicate conclusions. Students are encouraged to prepare for the Advanced Placement Examination in United States History.
